What We Fix

Common Power Flushing Emergencies We Attend

Our emergency engineers attend urgent heating system sludge and circulation problems across London — 24 hours a day, every day of the year. No matter the time, our Gas Safe engineers are ready to be dispatched immediately to assess your system. All emergency work is carried out at a fixed price agreed before we start.

⚠️ If you smell gas — do not call us first. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately and leave the property. Once safe, we can attend to any resulting plumbing work.

Multiple cold radiators

Several radiators across the property cold or only partially heating, a classic sign of sludge blockage.

Boiler kettling or banging

Loud kettling, banging or gurgling noises from the boiler, often caused by limescale and sludge restricting flow.

Black water when bleeding radiators

Dark, dirty water coming out when bleeding a radiator — a clear sign of sludge contamination in the system.

Frequent boiler breakdowns

Repeated boiler faults or lockouts often caused by sludge circulating through and damaging internal components.

System not circulating heat

Heating runs but rooms don’t warm up properly, indicating restricted flow somewhere in the pipework.

Pump or valve failure from sludge

A circulation pump or zone valve seized or damaged by built-up sludge and debris in the system.

While You Wait

What to Do Before an Emergency Power Flush

Taking these steps immediately can reduce water damage to your property significantly while you wait for our engineer.

Note which radiators are affected

Make a list of which radiators are completely cold, partially cold, or working normally. A clear pattern helps confirm whether sludge or another fault is the cause.

Check water colour when bleeding

If you bleed a radiator and dark or black water comes out, this strongly suggests sludge contamination — useful information for your engineer.

Avoid repeatedly resetting the boiler

If your boiler keeps locking out, avoid repeatedly resetting it without understanding the cause, as this can mask an underlying circulation problem getting worse.

Keep warm safely while you wait

Use extra blankets and layers. Avoid portable gas heaters indoors without ventilation, and never use an oven or hob to heat a room.

⚠️ Do NOT attempt these yourself

  • Do not attempt a DIY power flush using hosepipes or pressure washers connected to the heating system — this can damage radiators, valves and the boiler heat exchanger.
  • Do not add chemical cleaning products to the system without professional guidance — incorrect dosing can cause further problems.
  • Do not attempt to work on gas pipes, the boiler, or any gas appliance yourself. Only Gas Safe registered engineers are legally permitted to do this work.
  • Do not ignore a gas smell, even faintly — leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately.

“Six of our eight radiators were stone cold and the boiler had started kettling badly. Engineer came out same day, confirmed heavy sludge, and the power flush was booked and done within 48 hours. Every radiator now heats evenly for the first time in years.”

“Boiler had locked out three times in two weeks and we couldn’t work out why. Engineer diagnosed sludge restricting flow to the heat exchanger, flushed the whole system, and fitted a magnetic filter to stop it recurring. No more lockouts since.”

FAQs

Emergency Power Flushing Questions Answered

We aim to have an engineer at your property within 60 minutes across all London boroughs to assess a heating system showing signs of severe sludge build-up or blockage. We will confirm an estimated arrival time when you call or submit your request.
In many cases yes. A standard power flush typically takes 3 to 5 hours depending on the size of the system and number of radiators. Where the emergency call-out confirms a power flush is needed, we can often carry this out the same day, subject to engineer availability.
No. There is no call-out charge for an emergency assessment, day or night. You pay only for the diagnostic and flushing work, priced and agreed with you before the engineer starts.
Signs include multiple cold radiators or cold spots across many rooms simultaneously, a boiler making loud banging or kettling noises, black or discoloured water when bleeding radiators, frequent boiler breakdowns, or a system that has stopped circulating heat effectively. If in doubt, call us and we will advise.
A power flush is generally safe for systems in reasonable condition, but very old or already-failing pipework and radiators can occasionally reveal pre-existing weaknesses during the process. Our engineer will assess your system's condition before flushing and explain any risk specific to your setup.
Yes. Our emergency line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, for assessment call-outs. Full power flushes are typically scheduled during daytime hours given the duration of the job.
